COBER HILL RESIDENTIAL VISIT 2010

11th January 2010 - 15th January 2010

DAY ONE

After a snowy start to the journey, the children and staff set off from The Rose and Crown Pub at 9.30am.  A pit stop at Woolley Edge services to change coaches delayed the journey, but they travelled onwards heading towards York.  They visited the National Railway Museum and left there at 2.30pm to travel onwards to Cober Hill.

A weather update from Cober Hill -  the snow is thawing and roads are clear - better than with us!!

Update:  Coach arrived safely at Cober Hill at 4.20pm - all the children were shown their rooms and then everyone was going to enjoy some refreshments.

Update from Mr Woodhead:  Hotel Great, enjoyed a 3-course meal, then went out for a torchlit walk.  Children to bed at 9.45pm.  Very little snow or ice on the ground.

Here are some photos in a slideshow from the first day.

DAY TWO - Tuesday 12th January

Update from Mr Woodhead:  The day started off dull but dry with a light wind.  Everyone enjoyed a bracing walk along the cliff top, stopping off at the coastguard station and then they enjoyed their lunch on the beach.  After lunch they did some beachcombing and exploration with some work (not too much though!).  They walked inland towards Burniston and then back to the hotel.  The children enjoyed exploring outside and playing games until a heavy shower meant the children had to go back inside.  After the evening meal they wrote an account of the day and they listened to a story and played bingo.  They were in bed by 9.45pm, after enjoying their refreshments.

DAY THREE - Wednesday 13th January

Mr Woodhead has been in touch to bring us up to date.  Weather cold but dry.

Everyone enjoyed a hearty breakfast and then travelled off to the Sealife Centre, where they looked round in groups and met up every half hour and watched the feeding sessions of the otters, penguins and seals. They enjoyed a talk about turtles and after lunch spent their fortunes in the shop.  After the visit they walked along the promenade and a park to the swimming pool where they enjoyed an hour of swimming fun.  The coach collected them at 3.30pm to took them back to the hotel where they showered/bathed to get rid of the chlorine smell.  A session of work followed that before enjoyed another hearty 3-course dinner of Mushroom Soup, Fish and Chips with Mushy Peas and Treacle Sponge and Custard.  After the meal and a short working session, Mr Wells organised games. The children had their biscuit and bedtime drink before turning in at 9.45pm.

DAY FOUR - Thursday 14th January

A mild, dry day.  After breakfast the children did a village study and enjoyed a long walk.  After lunch the children wrote up their village study work and then went outside to complete some artwork.  All children enjoyed some free time and then had to get to the task of cleaning up and packing their cases.  After another lovely evening meal they children still had enough energy to enjoy dancing at the disco.

DAY FIVE - Friday 15th January

The coach left Cober Hill at 9.45am heading towards Scarborough, where the children enjoyed some time exploring the castle, harbour and some shopping too!  The coach left Scarborough at 1.30pm and arrived back at school at 3.45pm.
